MARBLE FLOORS.
Marble, 'the' original tile.
The vast majority of Marble floors that most people will have seen are invariably in public buildings of one sort or another. These will have been polished by machines and will look very untile like.
With domestic installations polishing is unfeasable and people are rarely prepared to go through the mess etc of having it polished gloss smooth.
The alternative to this means laying Marble tiles that are prepolished. The problem with this sort of installation is that the floor looks like a series of flat mirrors reflecting light back up at random. It is nigh on impossible to lay a floor in tile form that will look quite as good as a floor that has been polished insitu. The machining takes away any proud spots and 'rounds off the reflection' as it were. Unless you are prepared to have it laid and properly polished you must accept this limitation. We would also recommend you choose tiles with a satin gloss surface which can radically diminish the effect.
